If you're looking to do a bit of shopping and sightseeing in Sicily on your Malta holidays, it's only a stone's throw away.Virtu Ferries operate the Maria Delores, a high speed passenger and car catamaran, on the Malta/Scicily route to Catania and Pozzallo year round. There are 1-day excursions: - from Malta to Mt Etna and Taormina between March and October
- from Malta to Mt Etna and Modica between November and February
- and from Sicily to Malta between June and October
And there are also 3-full-day tours that visit typical Sicilian villages and ancient / World Heritage Sites and include accommodation at a B&B or guesthouse. The ferry from Valletta to Pozzallo takes 90 minutes and to Catania it's about 3 hours.
Jean de la ValetteVirtu's new catamaran the 'Jean de la Valette' will replace the Maria Delores at the end of September/early October 2010.
It will accommodate passengers, cars, campers and tourist operators and seat 800 passengers. Of course there is also first class seating with a separate kiosk and two VIP lounges. Whether you shop til you drop or stay a little longer to explore the wonders of Sicily, you're sure to have a fun and exciting time. The departure offices in Valletta, Catania and Pozzallo are open 2 hours before departure.
